My eyes were first opened to the green lifestyle when I moved to Flagstaff, AZ to attend Nothern Arizona University. If you have ever visited or lived in Flagstaff, enough said. If you have never visited the town (and I encourage you to do so) I will fill you in. Quite simply, Flagstaff has been on the green bandwagon long before many other places jumped on. It’s part of the culture of the town.

I am not saying that I did as much as I could to lesson my carbon footprint while I was there, but my eyes were opened to the idea. I was able to see how other people did it. Seeds were planted.

It all hit home years later when my son was born. My mom announced at my baby shower that a baby who uses single-use diapers puts two tons of solid waste into our environment (based on 2 years in diapers). That’s when I committed to cloth diapering. From there on, little changes began. Natural cleaners, glass bottles, making my own organic baby food… my dear friends took notice and began calling me a hippie. I looked in the mirror and realized I was not helping the stereotype. Motherhood was taking it's toll on my appearance as well as my lifestyle.
